Congressman Mike Ross and Sam Spearman from the Economic Development Administration were among several officials and more than 50 spectators to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony of Crossroads Parkway on July 9th.
Crossroads Parkway, which expands more than 40 acres, is the future home of the new Minton's Sportsplex and other future economic development. The development area is located on Interstate 30 between State Line and Jefferson avenues.
"This is indeed a great day in Texarkana," said Mayor Horace Shipp. Mayor Shipp said he believes that this new development area will bring more jobs and more revenue to the city of Texarkana, Arkansas.
The Crossroads Parkway was made possible by a $1.5 million grant from the U.S Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration that was announced in March.
According to Mayor Shipp, construction on the road could be completed in 150 days depending on the weather.
