In 2009 Texarkana, Arkansas will host the Dixie Youth World Series for the 12 and under, open base division. The 12 team tournament will take place at the North Park Baseball Complex located in Ed Worrell Memorial Park.

Championship teams from eleven states will be coming to Texarkana to compete in the 12 team tournament. "A lot of parents, grandparents, and other family members and friends will be coming here. That's a lot of business for our motels and restaurants as well as other business establishments," said Mayor Horace Shipp.

The bid was made possible by city officials' trip to Lynchburg Virginia where they made the request to Dixie Baseball's national directors. Mayor Shipp's PowerPoint presentation and hard copy proposal ensured Dixie league officials that Texarkana had adequate lodging, restaurants, entertainment and ball park facilities.

The proposal also included letters of recommendation from Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe, Senator Barbara Horn, Representative Steve Harrelson, Chamber of Commerce CEO Jeff Sandford and several officials from the Arkansas Dixie Youth Board of Directors.
