The removal of abandoned houses was the number one priority that College Hill residents stressed at the Ward 2 meeting held on June 21st at the College Hill Community Development Center. Texarkana, Arkansas Mayor Horace Shipp said it's a shame to spend money to tear down old houses but he agreed that it will benefit the city.
Expanding the Dial-a-Truck program was also high on the list of Ward 2 residents. City officials agreed that Dial-a-Truck would help to clean up neighborhoods in Ward 2, but reminded citizens in attendance that they needed to call public works at City Hall and give them addresses for the pickups rather than just waiting for someone to come by and pick them up.
Suggestions for a city veterinarian, better lighting on the streets and renovations to Bramble Park were also discussed.
The Ward 2 meeting was the second in a series of meetings in each of the city's six Wards. The meetings are being held throughout the summer to get input from citizens to find out where they want to spend the revenue of the new tax increases. Interim City Manager Harold Boldt, Ward 2 director Shirley Bradley, and Police Chief Robert Harrison were also available to answer questions.
