Helping Seniors
Jun 27 2008
Volunteers and AmeriCorps VISTA have begun their yearly duties by cutting the yards of senior citizens who cannot afford the cost of maintaining their lawns. Some senior citizens are financially or physically unable to maintain their lawns during the summer months and rely upon volunteers or a good neighbor to help. For four years, RSVP has called upon volunteer assistance, and recruitment of a lead team to direct the path for lawns to be cut. The lead team for 2008 was Robert Damron and Gi Gi Lawson, who used their personal vehicle and trailer as well as cutting machinery to cut two lawns. Applications are still being taken for qualifying seniors. Those who wish to apply to have their lawns cut may call or visit the RSVP office. The lawn service for senior citizens will end Aug. 29. For more information, call the RSVP office at 870-779-4983. From left: James Bruce, Velma Copone, Brenda Larson, Gigi Lawson, Maie Walker, Robert Damron and Victoria Carrigan.
