Most rapes are not
committed by strangers but by men who know their victims, who often
have gone out with them previously and are supposedly their friends.
This phenomenon is called "acquaintance" or "date"
rape.
Acquaintance rape is
forced, unwanted intercourse with a person you know. It is a violation
of your body and your trust. It is an act of violence. It can be with
someone you have just met, or dated a few times, or even with someone
to whom you are engaged. The force can come from threats or tome of
voice, as well as from physical force or weapons.
Unfortunately, it
cannot always be prevented but the more you know about it, however,
the more likely it is that you can avoid being put in a situation
where it could occur.

"What
to do if you are raped" |
Not necessarily in the
order listed below.
 |
Get
medical attention. Do not shower or clean yourself first. It is
understanding that you want to clean up, however by cleaning
your body you will be ridding your body of physical evidence
that may help if you decide to press charges. The physical
evidence collected from your body and possibly the rape scene
may help the police in their investigation. Also, you may have
sustained injuries that you may not be aware of. |
 |
Report
the attack to the police. Whether or not you plan to press
charges it is important to make the report and seek medical
attention, not necessarily in that order. |
