Re: Fatality Accident

On 9-6-06 at approximately 9:30pm Texarkana Arkansas Police responded to the 5000 block of North State Line Ave. in reference to a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. The victim, Larry Wilson (w/m/37 Shelbyville, TN) was found lying alongside the roadway on the northbound shoulder of State Line. The victim was approximately 100 feet south of the I-30 overpass.

LifeNet paramedics began treatment for the victim at the scene and quickly transported him to Christus St. Michael Hospital. His condition deteriorated and he was pronounced dead at 10:21pm. Witness acounts state that the victim ran eastbound into the traffic lanes. It was at this point that he was struck by a northbound Chevrolet S-10 Blazer. The driver of the vehicle involved was identified as Jonathan McAteer (w/m/25 Texarkana, TX).

After striking the victim, McAteer remained at the scene and was contacted by officers. As in other cases of accidents involving life threatening injuries, the driver was asked to submit to a breath test. McAteer agreed to a breath test and his blood alcohol content registered .08%.

Due to the death of the victim and McAteer's level of intoxication he was charged with Negligent Homicide and booked into the Bi-State Jail. No bond has been set at this time, and the accident remains under investigation. It is not known at this time why the victim ran out into the roadway.
