Re: Shooting Investigation

Texarkana Arkansas Police are investigating an apparent suicide that occurred in a parking lot adjacent to the Bi-State Center.

At approximately 7:00pm a white male entered the parking lot at the intersection of Pine and Front Streets and approached two Texarkana Texas Police officers who were walking to their cars. The male victim made a brief statement to get the officers attention at which point he produced a handgun and fired a single shot into his head. The officers immediately notified dispatch of the incident and attempted to render aid to the victim. LifeNet paramedics arrived shortly thereafter and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. No shots were fired by police, and neither of the officers had any prior dealings with the victim.

At this time the investigation is ongoing as to what the victim's motives might have been. Witnesses are being questioned and the victim's name is being witheld pending notification of family.
