Texarkana Arkansas Police officers responded to a report of a possible burglary which left a suspect with a head injury.
At 9:00am officers were called to a house in the 2300 block of Beech Street in reference to a report of a burglary just occurred. The homeowner reported to officers that a male suspect had let himself in through the back door of his house. Once inside the house, the suspect began calling out for the homeowners' son. (The homeowner advised that the suspect was friends with his son and had briefly lived at the residence during the summer but had moved out several months ago, and had no business being inside the house uninvited.)
The homeowner retreated to a back bedroom where he located a baseball bat and when the suspect came around the courner, he struck him in the head. The suspect ran from the scene prior to officers arrival. Police later received a call from St. Michael Hospital ER regarding an assault victim that had just arrived.
Officers learned that the suspect left the scene on foot and went to a friend's house who transported him to St. Michael's Hospital. The suspect received a cut to his head which doctors advised would require stitches.
The suspect intially gave a conflicting account as to where the incident had occurred and the circumstances surrounding his injury. When confronted with the evidence that officers had obtained the suspect admitted to having been inside the home.
The details of this case are still under investigation and it is undetermined at this point as to whether or not charges will be filed against any of the parties involved. No arrests have been made at this time. If it is determined that the suspect did not receive permission to enter the house from either the victim or his son he could face charges of Residential Burglary which is a felony, or at the very least, misdemeanor Criminal Trespass.
