INDEX CRIME

The YTD Total Crime Index increased 18 percent from the same period in 2000.  Our clearance rate on index crimes was 74 percent, which is considerably higher than the national average.  We had anticipated an increase in the overall crime rate due to the annexations within the last year that have doubled the size of the city.  This trend is expected to likely continue through the remainder of 2001.

Budget

Expenditures remain within prorated limits for all police budgets.  Vehicle maintenance costs have been decreased under costs that we experienced in 2000 and 2001 - largely as the result of being able to replace several vehicles from our aging fleet.  The total vehicle maintenance expenditures for FY2001 were $78,643 - a 13.4 percent increase over FY2000 and a 30.1 percent increase over FY1999.  Fuel costs are not reflected in these figures.
