SENTENCING GRID
Punishment consists of a specific number of hours of community service and a required number of terms as a Teen Court Juror. The Teen Court Jury assesses community service based on the evidence presented.
A range of hours for each offense is defined by a grid system which is based on the nature of the offense. Sentences range from no less than eight (8) hours to no more than sixty-four (64) hours of community service, and a required number of jury terms. Defendants with multiple offenses will be tried for the most serious (highest class) offense and will receive additional community service hours for subsequent offenses at the discretion of the Presiding Teen Court Judge. Assessment of jury terms for teens with multiple offenses is based on the number of terms required for the defendant's most serious offense.
Failure to complete the Teen Court sentence will result in the case being returned to the referring agency for legal prosecution.
