The City of Texarkana, Texas Parks & Recreation Department has two main responsibilities: The first is the planning, programming and administration of all parks and leisure facilities within the city. We currently have 12 parks covering more than 400 acres, with 19 baseball and softball fields, a soccer complex, 10 pavilions (which are available for reservations) tennis courts, a disc golf course, 4 lakes and a swimming pool. The newest addition to our parks is KIDTOPIA, a community built playground which was constructed in 2004.

The second responsibility is to promote and provide quality leisure and recreational activities to enhance the lives of all our citizens and visitors, and to promote the city in general. Our slogan is: "It's a Quality of Life Thing!" We have a number of special activities throughout the year including our Fourth of July celebration: Sparks in the Park. We also feature Movies and Concerts in the Parks, Community Garage Sales, an Easter Egg Hunt, a Fishing Tournament for our mentally disabled population and tournaments for our youth baseball/softball and soccer programs.

We also have three facilities that provide ongoing activities. The Southwest Center, which is a community program with computer labs, room and meeting rentals, gymnasium and tennis courts. The Collins Memorial Senior Center provides ongoing activities and services for the seniors in our population. The Beverly Center provides a caring and safe environment for the youth in the Texarkana area with after-school and summer recreational programs.
